With great love and fond memories, the family of Alethia “Dumplin” Evadne Crummer, 79 of Queens, NY, announces her peaceful passing on April 24, 2026, at 10:52 P.M.

Born August 9, 1946, in New York City to Emma Florence (Greene) Eldridge and Lorenzo LaSalle Eldridge, Alethia was raised by her grandmother, Pearl Eldridge in Manhattan. From an early age she radiated joy, always the first on the dance floor, the life of every party, and the friend who could turn an ordinary day into a celebration. Constantly on the move her mother affectionately called her a “Gypsy.” Alethia was always seeking music, laughter, good Hennessy and good company,

Alethia worked after high school on Wall Street and held various positions over the years, but her true passion was living fully, dancing with abandonment, hosting and attending gatherings, and lifting spirits wherever she went. She lived across several NYC boroughs before moving to Norfolk, VA, to be near her dear friend Barbara Rice. 11 years ago, when illness drew her back to New York, Rosalie brought her home to Jamaica, Queens. She stayed with her nephew, Damon Harris, next door to her sister, Rosalie Harris. Rosalie was able to care for her before and after she was accepted into Assisted Living in Long Beach, Long Island. For the past nine years, Alethia became a cherished resident of Brooklyn Blvd ALP; a place she enjoyed for its community, independence, and the simple pleasures of daily life she shared with new friends.

She is survived by her husband, James W. Crummer, Jr., siblings Rosalie M. Harris, Ronald S. Eldridge, Alonzo M. Eldridge, Michael L. Eldridge, Terrence A. Eldridge, Christine Eldridge, and Tracey Young; her Goddaughter DeShoun Pane; nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of cousins and friends who danced through life with her. She was pre-deceased by her parents Emma Florence and Lorenzo LaSalle Eldridge, sisters Peggy and Myra Eldridge, brothers Thomas and Keith Eldridge, and Grandmother Pearl Eldridge.

On March 30, 2026, Alethia was admitted to Long Island Jewish Hospital, beginning her journey to her Heavenly Home. Though we mourn her passing, we celebrate a life filled with music, movement, laughter, and love, a woman who taught us to dance despite everything.
