With heavy hearts, we share that Daniel Welfare Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and father-in-law, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Brooklyn, NY.

He was born on March 31, 1933, in Santee, South Carolina, to the late Gracie Thompson and Cola Welfare. Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, his sister Margaret, and his daughters Shona and Ira.

He is survived by his children: Shevawn, Duane, Loren, David, Daniel Jr. (Davina), Brenda, and Gloria; along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever cherish his love, guidance, and legacy.

Daniel was a highly respected member of his community. He is remembered for his unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his strong work ethic. Throughout his career, Daniel served as a housekeeping supervisor at Woodhull and Community Hospitals, and his dedication, leadership, and professionalism earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Daniel took great pride in his work and in his role as a patriarch of the family, always ensuring that his home and family were well cared for.

Daniel was known for his wisdom and thoughtful advice. He led by example and instilled in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the values of hard work, integrity, and family unity. He will be remembered as the ultimate patriarch -- a caring man who provided love, stability, and guidance. His legacy will continue to live on through his family, his community, and all whose lives he touched.
