Demitri O'Neil
McKay, Jr.
Aug 21, 1996 — Mar 24, 2026
Demitri O’Neil McKay Jr. aka Junior, a beloved son, father, brother, nephew and friend passed away on March 24th, 2026, in Queens New York. He was 29 years old, born on August 21st, 1996, in Queens New York. Junior graduated Martin Van Buren High School and carried with him a strong work ethic and a deep sense of gratitude for every opportunity he encountered from delivering food to driving buses for the MTA he approached each role with respect and determination; Junior was never afraid to work hard and always wanted to better himself.
Junior grew up worshiping at Mount Olivet Baptist Church. He was a man of faith. His connection to the Lord was unwavering and he lived his life as a testament to his belief, performing acts of kindness and service without expectation of recognition or reciprocation. His actions spoke volumes about his character. He was caring, empathetic, forgiving, and honorable. Those who knew him were touched by his great heart and genuine spirit. Junior cherished his family above all else, he is survived by his loving parents: Debra McKay (BFF) and Demitri McKay Sr. (POP), his siblings Shaneya McKay, Dominique McKay, and Dantee Solomon. His son Cameron McKay, nieces Samarah and Imani that he loved and cherished as his own and his nephews Bryant, Massiah and Osei. Junior leaves behind an abundance of family members including his grandmothers Martha Rice (granny), and Sandra Humphrey, his grandfather Duncan McKay, several aunts, and uncles: Rodney Moore, Jasson Humphrey, Jennifer Moore, Alicia Newsome, Nikki Merritt, James Moore, Vance Humphrey Jr. (Moose), Johnny Cummings, Sandra Humphrey (Meme), Joseph Cummings, Charlotte Cummings, Crystal Cummings and Daniel Humphrey. His Godparents, numerous cousins as well as a godchild. He was blessed to have very close friends and three best friends Vlad, Samone and Terrell. His family was the cornerstone of his life.
Junior did not like to hang out as much as a typical young man would but once he left the house, he made a difference and we didn’t know it, but he was walking in service for the lord. He was known as a Good Guy to anyone that has ever met him. Junior loved to play basketball with the kids or his friends, he loved to bowl, workout and watch different movies with his family at home. He loved to be funny and make everybody laugh. He did not play about his food. He loved his bunny Mr. Hoppy and the Joe Budden podcast. Living a simple life, grateful for every moment while unknowingly making a significant impact with his words and his presence.
Whether offering advice or simply keeping peace, Junior was a protector and a source of strength for those around him. Junior set personal goals for self-improvement but that did not stop him from helping anyone in need. He had an innate ability to make people feel understood through meaningful conversations or a quick laugh. His open mindedness and resilience inspired those fortunate enough to know him. Dimitri Jr. was a genuine person and loved by everyone that crossed his path. Which is a true testament to his character.
Although we know that he was called home to the Kingdom of Heaven our hearts are heavy because for us, he is gone too soon. Junior would appreciate all the love that is shown to him, but he would not want us to stop living, he knows that we love and will never forget him. His legacy of love and kindness is imprinted in our lives and will be everlasting, and he knows that when the time comes, we will meet again and things will be even more beautiful.
Thank you, Junior, for coming into our lives you will always be in our hearts. We love you.
