Willie Isiah
Savage
Jan 8, 1955 — Oct 6, 2025
Willie Isiah Savage — beloved husband, father, “Grandpoo,” Uncle Willie and loyal friend — passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, at Brooklyn Hospital. He lived a life of quiet strength, gentle humor, and sincere kindness, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Early Life
Born on January 8, 1955, in Gates County, North Carolina, Willie was the son of the late Robert Savage and Annie Lassiter. One of eleven children, he grew up surrounded by a large, loving family filled with brothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, and friends — ties that shaped his warm and giving spirit.
From Gates County to Brooklyn
After attending Gates County High School, Willie moved to Brooklyn New York as a young man. There, he met and married the love of his life, Trevis Bethea. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and faith, raising two cherished children — Jason and Jessica Savage.
To those who knew him, he was “Mr. Willie,” “Mr. Savage,” “Uncle Willie,” and, his favorite, “Grandpoo.” No matter what name you called him, he was always steady, kind, and dependable — the quiet rock of his family.
A Life of Service and Simple Joys
Willie dedicated thirty years to the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), serving from December 28, 1986, until his retirement in 2016. Starting as a Watchperson and later promoted to Enforcement Officer, he was known for his reliability, honesty, and pride in his work. Throughout his career, he received several awards and certificates honoring his hard work and honest service to the city he called home.
When he wasn't focused on family or work, Willie found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved watching anime, often sharing his favorite shows and storylines with those around him. He also enjoyed the friendly competition of a good poker game — especially when surrounded by family or friends. Willie sometimes associated with the Flatbush Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses alongside his wife, Trevis, where he was known by many of the Friends.
A Loving Legacy
Willie leaves behind a family who adored him: his wife Trevis, his loving children Jessica and Jason, and his seven treasured grandchildren — Trevon, Jason, Jahlil, Jalah, Magnus, Jace, and Jonah.
His memory will also be carried on by three sisters — Mattie Overton, Gladys Davis, and Ann Mason — and his two brothers — Walter Savage and Joel Savage — along with a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Willie’s example of love, family, laughter, and strength will always live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. His legacy is one of faith, family, humility, and joy — a reminder that a simple, kind life is a life well lived.
